The judging process is in two stages.
Stage 1.Shortlisted companies will be interviewed and case studies will be compiled.
These case studies will focus on establishing an objective presentation of the organisation, its design capabilities and the stipulated outcomes.
This information will be used by the judging panel to determine the finalists and overall winner of the 2008 Design in Business Award.

Derek Lockwood is the Worldwide Director of Design at leading multinational advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi. Derek sits on the Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Board and most recently was responsible for the design of the best selling business book Lovemarks: the future beyond brands.
Derek began his career in advertising some 20 years ago. During that time he has been responsible for managing some of New Zealand's largest advertising accounts.
Before joining Saatchi & Saatchi in 1998, Derek was a founding member of The Campaign Palace, one of New Zealand's advertising success stories.
Derek’s passion for design has always been a major influence in his work having used design as a means for delivering highly innovative new business programmes for the agency and designing much of the agency's network documentation.
Today Derek's responsibilities at Saatchi & Saatchi include heading the global design team out of New Zealand and building design systems and capability within the Saatchi Network globally.

Nevil Gibson is Editor-in-Chief of leading New Zealand business publication, National Business Review (NBR). He was appointed Editor of NBR in 1989 and appointed Editor-in-Chief in 1995.
Nevil began his career in journalism 40 years ago, and has extensive experience in radio, daily newspapers and magazines having worked on publications including Dominion Post, The Press and on Radio New Zealand.
He has judged a variety of business and journalism awards including, Pacific Business Trust, Entrepreneur of the Year, Manukau, North Shore and Waitakere Business Excellence Awards; Qantas Media Awards (student journalism) and Henrys (motoring journalism).
Nevil is on the executive board of the Magazine Publishers Association of New Zealand and represents that body on the New Zealand Journalists’ Training Organisation.

David Walker is an architect, consultant, designer, innovation and new product development specialist.
David has worked for some of the most prestigious universities in the world, including the Open University, Royal College of Art, Brunel University, with invited sabbaticals at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; Tongji University, Shanghai; University of Technology, Sydney; and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
With long standing expertise in the manufacturing, manufacturing management, sustainability and innovation fields, David has published around 30 analytical business case studies and is the author of around 50 Open University booklets.
In 2000 David co-founded leading sustainability consultancy, giraffeinnovation consultants UK, where much of his work deals with environmental legislation.
As the former Professor of Creative Industries, UCOL, Wanganui, David launched a new undergraduate degree and was Post Graduate Director for the School of Computer Graphics.
Since 2007, he has been a Research Associate at the University of Auckland working as part of Dr Rainer Seidel’s INNOVATIONZ team, which seeks to improve the competitiveness of New Zealand SMEs.
He continues to work as an independent consultant in the UK, New Zealand, China, and elsewhere.
